I just finished reading Marvels this morning and MY GOD what a beautiful thing it was!
The artwork was flawless! It felt like I was in a dream the entire time and it was great to read a comic in the POV of a mundy/muggle/normal citizen of New York. Addressing the fickle nature of the general public, the influence of the media and how the unknown can fascinate and intimidate.
It made me realise how much I adore Gwen Stacy and Silver Surfer as characters. Just the hint of them being introduced into the story made me giddy!
Alex Ross, you are a wonderful person. The colours and attention to detail were phenomenal even down to the wrinkles in Spidey’s mask (which so many Spidey cosplayers stress about! :p )
Out of everything the foot notes at the end of the comic were the most interesting to me. Learning how the whole thing progressed, using models, figurines, creating the scene in photographs, relying on the imagination to create the character’s looks and then working the magic that comes so easily to Ross. It was an eyeopener and very motivational and inspiring to read.
